5 x 5

I understand you perfectly.

5 x 5 was a phrase used by two way radio operators to indicate optimal communication. In this series of small paintings, I hope some story or meaning comes across. I doubt any of what these images signal is loud and clear. However, their size makes them affordable, and with enough time, you may understand what they say.

These experimental images are born of the process of layering paint on paper, often starting as non-objective marks, rarely beginning with a figure. They never start with a story. Some have been torn and collaged. They hang about in my studio over days and months, waiting to be rediscovered, challenged, and added to until something comes through. When I think enough is there to compel my interest, I stop. Can you see a story in them? Can you read me?
